Fuji Speedway

J'ai ete chanceux en fin de semaine, un compagnon de travail m'a demande, jeudi, comme ca, a brule pour point : "Hey, ca te dirais d'aller voir une course de Formule Nippon dimanche ?" (enfin, pas que quelqu'un au bureau parle francais hein ? c'est une traduction libre). Ne faisant ni une ni deux, j'ai bien entendu saute sur l'occasion (je suis un gars quoi...) La course se deroulait au Fuji Speedway et nous nous y sommes rendu en voiture, grace a un ami du collegue de travail mentionne plus haut.

La journee etait brulante, litteralement, a un moment donne il faisait 38C ! Heureusement, en fin d'apres-midi quelques nuages ce sont pointes le bout du nez pour nous gracier d'un peu d'ombre. Malgre la chaleur, la journee fut un franc succes. J'ai pu jouer abondamment de la camera (Essayez de prendre en photo une voiture roulant a 300Km/h au moment ou elle passe a coter de vous avec un facteur de zoom de 10, c'est pas de la tarte). Mais quand meme, 200 photos plus tard j'ai quand meme reussi quelques bons coups. Il n'y a pas vraiment eu d'accident spectaculaire par contre, ce qui est peut-etre un peu dommage, ou tant mieux, dependamment si on est le pilote ou le spectateur !

Je semble etre assez malchanceux pour les retours a Tokyo par contre. Encore une fois, un voyage de retour simple qui aurait du nous prendre une heure environ nous a lasser par son interminable duree de 4h ! Merci au traffic sur l'autoroute, ca c'est de l'embouteillage monsieur ! Meme si dans la voiture c'etait assez relax (j'ai meme dormi par moment) apres une journee passee a 35 ou 38 degree dehors sous le soleil, un leve a 4h du matin et un retour qui m'a ramene chez nous passe 23h, je dois avouer que j'etais assez mort. On etait dimanche en plus, alors c'etait journee de boulot le lendemain !

Autre detail amusant, Fuji Speedway porte bien son nom car on peut effectivement voir le mont Fuji par temps clair (ce qui est tres rare). La journee etait tellement belle qu'on a meme pu voir le sommet du mont pointer le bout de son nez.

I was quite lucky this weekend, a friend at work came to me out of nowhere and asked me : "Hey, would you like to go check out some Formula Nippon racing Sunday ?". There is something about the mix "cars" + "guys" that just seems right to me, so of course I said yes ! The race was at the fairly famous Fuji Speedway, we were able to get there thanks to a friend of the above mentionned colleague.

The whole day was not unlike a frying pan, quite hot. At some point I was able to confirm that the temperature was oscillating around 38C ! Hopefully, in the afternoon, a few clouds showed up to give us a much needed shade. Even with the overheat tough the day was a real success ! I was able to play with my camera like a maniac (just try taking a picture of a car as it fly pass you at 300Km/h, let's see how good you become, I was using a 10x optical zoom too !) So all that resulted in about 200 pictures, most of which are from empty space where a car should have been. But like they say, if you can't get quality, than get quantity, so with all that I still managed to get a few really good shots I think ! There wasn't any real spectacular incident tough, which can be considered a bit sad, or happy if you are one of the drivers. Aside from that, I don't have much information to give, like who was first place or how where the qualifications, because even tough there was some commentary being broadcasted along the side of the course, it was in japanese and I didn't pay much attention.

Going back to Tokyo seems to be a bit of a problem for me (remember the Shinkansen?) Once again, a trip that should have taken around one hour, took more than four ! thank you mister traffic jam ! So even tough the trip back was fairly relax (except for the driver), after a whole day in the sun, and considering I had woken up around 4, when I finally reached my apartment at 23h I was beat.

One last detail, Fuji Speedway is brilliantly called so because on clair days you can actually see mount Fuji in the distance (very very rare, but possible). The day was indeed very nice, and we were graced by a quick appearance of the peak of the mountain from a few clouds that were lingering around it.

I wasn't the only one with cameras at the event, actually, I was the one with the cheapest camera I think (some of these guys have lenses that look more like a telescope than a camera lens).
Je n'etais pas le seul a photographier allegrement, en fait, je dirais que j'avais sans doute la plus ordinaire camera compare aux autres photographes presents. (Beaucoup de gens avaient des lentilles ressemblant plus a un telescope qu'une lentille de camera).

This is one of the few pictures I'm really proud of (do not use without permission !) Just look at the background, the car is clear only because I was following it with the camera, that's why the background is so blurry !
Une des rares photos que j'ai prises dont je suis vraiment fier (tous droits reserves !) Portez attention a l'arriere plan et vous pourrez remarquer que la seule raison pourquoi la voiture est clair c'est vraiment parce que je la suivait juste a la bonne vitesse avec la camera, raison pour laquelle l'arriere plan est flou horizontalement !


Between the qualifications and the actual race there was a Integra (Called RSX now in Canada) race. It quite interesting because they really don't care much about the car so the drivers are actually much more reckless !
Entre le tour de qualification et la veritable course c'etait la course d'Integra (au Canada maintenant on l'appelle la RSX). C'etait tres interessant parce que contrairement a la formule, les conducteurs ne semblent pas avoir beaucoup d'attachement a leur voiture et sont donc beaucoup plus temeraire.


You can't see it much, but yes, the darkish thing in the middle of the picture is mount Fuji, when I think I was at the top of that thing last week !
Vous aurez peut-etre de la misere a le voir, mais oui, le truc un peu plus fonce dans le milieu de l'image c'est le mont Fuji ! Dire que pas plus tard que la semaine passe j'etait de l'autre cote de la photo !
